Unread messages badge count reading always wrong

I have this issue on both my ipad and my iphone. Ive tried uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling multiple times on both devices and problem still persists. Badge count reads 10+ more than actually in inbox. This issue may sound minor, but its frustrating when I dont actually know how many unread messages I have in my inboxes.

Ive reached out to tech support multiple times over the past few months and they have offered no assistance in the matter.
